An anthology edited by Lukas Dubro and Tim Holland with texts by 13 authors

We live on a damaged planet. The future is uncertain. In this uncertainty, we look for narratives that give space to our fears, wishes and hopes. Science fiction and speculative fiction have the potential to open up spaces in which one can think about worlds that do not (yet) exist. We wanted to talk about what these look like and how we can tell about them.

At the end of April 2022, 13 authors met at the Literary Colloquium Berlin for the first “Unconference on Speculative Fabulating”. Over three days we thought and discussed together: What will the world look like in 50, 100 or 200 years, how do the poles of “science” and “fiction” relate to each other, and what could a “Queer Utopia” look like? In the end, we formulated plans that were to be implemented in the coming weeks. One of them was the respective text contribution to the present anthology. The future is uncertain. The 13 text contributions also contain different possible futures. With texts by Jumoke Adeyanju, Svenja Viola Bungarten, Lukas Dubro, Joshua Groß, Anna Hetzer, Tim Holland, Samuel J. Kramer, Benedikt Kuhn, Anja Kümmel, Rudi Nuss, Anne Oltscher, Philipp Schönthaler, Maxi Wallenhorst.

The anthology »Collapse and Hope Porn. 13 Future Prospects” was created as part of “Future Prospects. An Unconference of Speculative Fabulating« (April 29 to May 1, 2022), a project of the Literary Colloquium Berlin and Kapsel magazine, in collaboration with Acud Macht Neu and Maro Verlag, kindly supported by the Berlin Senate Department for Culture and Europe.
