“The unconscious is structured like a language.” (Jacques Lacan)

Who speaks when we write? And where does the text come from? We use these questions to uncover our language reserves through writing. On the first evening of the course, we will look at experimental methods of text production. The focus will be on the technique of montage, i.e. the deconstruction and reconstruction of language, as well as on working in several drafts. We will also discuss the texts produced during the course. On the second evening of the course, we will bind the notes and texts into a book using adhesive binding, which represents the writing process and makes it comprehensible.

No previous knowledge is required to take part in the course. All working materials and a basic stock of paper will be provided. However, you are also welcome to bring your own writing materials.

Benedikt Steiner, born 1990 in Basel, is a poet, visual artist and performer. He studied experimental design in Lucerne and language art in Vienna, where he has lived ever since. Writes poetry and prose, creates books and pictures, initiates exhibitions, workshops and performances. Most recently: spuren in einem (Text/Rahmen, 2023).
