A photo book project about the international flower trade
In 2022, I decided to photograph flowers – before the flash equipment was set up, my gaze fell on the label on the cellophane wrapping of the flowers, which read: ‘Product of Kenya’. What? Our flowers in Austrian shops have travelled all the way from Africa? I wanted to know more and spent days immersed in research on the international flower trade. What I discovered gave me sleepless nights and still preoccupies me today, years later.
In any case, after a little research, it was clear to me that I couldn't photograph the products of this crazy world, the flowers, in the traditional way. I had to counter the typical still life ‘flowers’ with something else photographically: this is how the pictures you find in this book came about; they are exclusively non-still lifes. I wanted to hold up my own little madness as a mirror to the madness in the world!
