In this collection of one-page comics, Eric Schwarz distils life’s grand emotions into the tiniest of spaces. Combining subtle humour, poetic imagery and charming kitsch, he creates ‘miniatures’ about love and those fleeting emotional moments that many recognise yet have never seen put into words quite like this. His characters morph and melt, turning into ghosts, skeletons, oversized hearts with legs, and suddenly it makes more sense than any therapy session. One moment, someone with a gigantic head is running along the beach, filled with these huge memories, before you realise the head is hollow inside and you think: Yes, that’s exactly how it feels. Someone else has felt these feelings before, and millions of others have been in your situation. That could be comforting, were it not so terribly ordinary, and that doesn’t make it any easier either. It feels as though someone is hugging you whilst simultaneously ramming their fist into your solar plexus.
