Bianca Pedrina photographs urban spaces, concentrating on seemingly insignificant details, traces and fragments that potentially contain the big picture. In the artistâs photographs, the urban interventions and buildings become evident as products of their planners, their use and the time that gnaws at them.
This book builts on Architekturfotografie published in 2017 and focuses on moments of architectural incongruity and the clash of different forms and times. Places such as Taipei, Seoul, Shanghai, Pisa, Andratx, Sofia, Leeds, Glasgow, St. Anton, Colmar, Zagreb, Brno and Mödling come to the fore in an exciting and contrasting way. Texts by Michiel Huijben run like markers through the book and reflect on the idea of the boundary. They consider some of the many ways that the threshold or the boundary shapes our relationships, both with our surroundingsâbuilt and organic, historical and presentâ and with one another.
