What speaks when we write? And where does the text come from? Guided by these questions, we’ll use writing to uncover our linguistic treasures in this workshop. On the first evening of the course, we’ll explore experimental methods of text production. The focus will be on the technique of montage—that is, the deconstruction and reconstruction of language and meaning—as well as on working with multiple drafts. We’ll also discuss the texts created during the course. On the second evening of the course, we’ll bind the notes and texts using simple binding techniques to create an art book that represents the writing process while also translating it into a new form.
No prior experience is required to participate in the course. All materials, as well as a supply of paper, will be provided. However, you’re welcome to bring your own writing materials.
Benedikt Steiner is a poet, visual artist, and educator. He studied material design in Lucerne and language arts in Vienna, where he also lives. He writes poetry and prose, creates books and artwork, and organizes exhibitions, workshops, and performances. Benedikt Steiner is also a co-founder of Edition Glaren. In 2026, his second poetry collection, *SINN & BRANDUNG*, was published under the steiner/bücher imprint.
Cancellation Policy: Courses are held in small groups of six people. Early registration is recommended. Cancellation is free of charge up to 20 days before the course begins. For cancellations made later, up to 14 days before the start of the event, a cancellation fee of 50% of the participation fee will be charged. For cancellations made within 14 days of the start date or in the event of a no-show, the full participation fee is due. If the event cannot take place, the full course fee will be refunded. Participation in the course is at your own risk.
