Artist Talk with Sabine Jelinek in conversation with Sebastian Gansrigler. In the presence of the artist and the publisher.
The 120-page book contains 50 images from the series Transfiguration (2003–2026). In this ongoing series of photographic self-portraits, Sabine Jelinek captures recurring moments of nosebleeds in the mirror—intimate, acute physical states in which she is both the subject and the creator of the image. Following the design concept, the photographs are given a special varnish that visually emphasizes the reflective nature of the portraits. The deliberately compact book format emphasizes the vulnerability and intimate dimension of the series. The accompanying text by Ruth Horak situates the works within the context of the self-portrait taken with a camera in a mirror and connects art-historical references to the depiction of suffering with media-reflective questions regarding apparatus, gaze, and photographic self-observation.
