How do you make a magazine? Who and what is behind it? We warmly invite you to an exciting evening of discussion featuring four very different independent magazines: C/O Vienna, Fleisch, Popchop, Revü. We’ll explore these topics through conversation and offer an insight into the world of magazines: How do independent magazines and self-publishing work? From concept to the final printed product, how is the graphic design created, how is a team structured, how do sales and distribution work, what types of funding are available, and what exactly is a “magazine”? We warmly invite you to join us for a discussion and exchange of ideas.
In conversation with:
Antje Mayer-Salvi, C/O Vienna
Antje has been editor-in-chief and founder of the magazine since 2016 – despite all the talk of ‘print being dead’! She also runs the agency C/O Vienna Publishing on the side. As a freelance journalist, she has spent years reporting from Eastern Europe, making documentaries, writing books and teaching the masterclass in communication design at the Graphische.
Carlotta Wachotsch, Revü
Carlotta is a filmmaker and is studying at the University of Television and Film Munich; in the 2023/24 academic year, she will also be studying at the Friedl Kubelka School of Film. Since 2020, she has been co-editor and writer for the film magazine Revü – Flugblatt für Film, which she founded in Munich with Sarah Daisy Ellersdorfer. Revü is now a collectively run magazine with seven editors.
Markus Huber, Fleisch
Markus is one of the magazine’s founders and has been its editor for 21 years; he is also a writer and columnist for various magazines. Fleisch is a society and culture magazine based in Vienna.
Matthias Balgavy, Popchop
Matthias is the founder and editor of Popchop. Since 2022, Popchop has served as a creative hub for culinary innovation. Through Popchop events and the Popchop magazine, the organisation is driving a forward-looking culture of enjoyment at the intersection of food, design and a growing community.
