In this three-hour workshop, you will learn a special variation of the Australian piano hinge binding—without wooden sticks, but with paper, precision, and a beautiful, modular folding technique. The basis is a folded Leporello spine, into which the pages are fixed using a sophisticated plug-in technique—without any sewing. What makes it special is that the pages can be flexibly added, reordered, or replaced. The combination of different papers and colors also creates a subtle interplay of rhythm and structure. The result is a flexible, graphic book object with clean lines and a sculptural look—ideal for sketches, small series, photo books, and artist books.
Under the name ‘Workshops by Frey’, graphic designer Anna Frey offers workshops and lovingly designed step-by-step instructions on all aspects of bookbinding. With her ‘Workshops by Frey’, the trained graphic designer rethinks classic bindings – and builds a bridge between tradition and modernity with the combination of high-quality materials and characteristic, minimalist design.
