How is a magazine for designers actually created in an indie publishing house? Why start a print magazine at all? And what role does trade press still play today, in a world full of feeds and digital formats?

On June 13, we invite you to a special panel evening at Softcover: Sonja Pham, deputy editor-in-chief and co-founder of Grafikmagazin, will provide insights into everyday editorial life and take you behind the scenes of magazine production – from the first collection of topics to the finished print edition.

Also on the panel is Ingmar Thies, Senior Artist at Angewandte and author of “Teaching Graphic Design”, who has already been profiled in Grafikmagazin. Ingmar and Sonja talk about why independent specialist media are needed today in particular – and how they are helping to shape the design discourse and the future of design.

Afterwards, we will open the discussion to questions, thoughts and conversations with you. Come along, we look forward to an open, inspiring evening with you – and lots of great magazines in softcover!

For many years, Christine Moosmann, Sonja Pham, Tobias Holzmann and Christian Meier were the graphics and editorial team of novum – World of Graphic Design, a magazine that was founded in 1924 and was one of the world’s leading specialist publications for design. In 2020, they finally fulfilled their dream and founded their own magazine: Grafikmagazin. As a specialist magazine, Grafikmagazin reports on trends and developments in communication design, showcases outstanding work from around the world and supports creative professionals in their daily work.
