Act I: MANUSCRIPT is here. We are pleased to welcome you to the launch of UNTITLED at Softcover on Friday, March 7. The event includes a reading performance by Morley House, a discussion and a book signing.

Two artists live in the same room for several years. What happens to them there? They grow closer, blend into each other, and try to distinguish themselves while making sense of their interactions. On top of that, they both feel a persistent presence of the Other—something unknown, not fully known (it is there, but they cannot put it into words). Is it something from this world or not? How do we deal with things beyond our mundane reality?

UNTITLED is an ongoing project that started in New York in 2020. It is about two artists living closely together for over five years. The project traces and analyses human connections: messy, unpredictable, alive. It is about the way we all interact – with ourselves, our partners or in larger systems. UNTITLED has been worked on in a number of media: text, sculpture, photography, drawing. The theme turned out to be crucial for Morley House and their practice. The results and insights of the five year exploration will be shared with the audience in several acts in 2025.

Morley House, Dinara Asadulina and Christos Kakouros, are an artist duo working at the crossroads of visual art and literature. They make artists’ books, installations and performances, and see them as vessels, depositories for narratives, comprised of textual and physical elements. They both grew up at the borders – of cultures, countries, languages. The fascination with liminal states and spaces translates into their central themes: trauma and healing, violence and communication, isolation and unity. In keeping with their backgrounds in linguistics and architecture, we see our creative process as world-building. Through the medium of language, its rigid grammar and syntax, Dinara explores realms of the human unconscious, while Christos moves in the opposite direction: from charcoal lines and watercolor shapes on paper to structured and sculptured narrative. The in-between is their meeting point.
