Publishing Ecologies – The Art & Infrastructures of Indie Publishing
Wednesday, 15 January 2025, 19:00
Softcover, Stumpergasse 53-55, 1060 Vienna
Talk language: English
What does “indie publishing” mean today? In which ways might it break with prevalent expectations? How could publications become platforms or collectible research in their own right? In this talk, Sigrid Schmeisser an independent researcher and designer of the risograph magazine Raccogliere, Christoph Miler from Offshore known for the six-edition Migrant Journal, and historian Nils Güttler, co-founder of intercom Verlag known for Æther magazine, discuss the art and infrastructure of publishing.
We seek to touch upon publishing as a form of inquiry that may break with established rules, shedding light on content generation, means of production and circulation. We will dive into the practicalities of working with and without publishers, and reflect on means of distribution including hybrid publishing. Copies of Raccogliere, Migrant Journal and Æther will be available at the end of the event.
Join us for a presentation and open conversation on publishing ecologies.
